The First Multi-Purpose Electronic Column
The Universal Electronic Column does the work of three ordinary columns-it's a microprocessor-based column that handles amplifier/splitter, summation or mixer applications in one unit, and it accepts both LVDT and half-bridge transducers.

It's the right column for all your gaging applications, even when those applications change. And it helps eliminate mistakes when you use it. Foolproof automatic mastering takes seconds instead of minutes and allows virtually no chance of operator error. After initial configuration, you simply select minimum and maximum limits, insert your masters, and touch min. and max. on the tactile keypad.

All This Is Standard
You get a digital display of actual size or variations, a universal module with LVDT and half-bridge transducer capability, a 101 bar LED readout with 1% resolution, which is selectable for discrete (one light) or thermometer-type displays. You also get built-in T.I.R., most minimum or most maximum capability, color-keyed limit lights, analog output, limit output, and four transducer inputs with automatic switching for two channels.

In addition, you get power-up diagnostics, range and polarity selection, inch or metric readings with a simple scale change, and plus or minus pointers ... as well as a configuration display and LED indicators for gage mode, error, low battery and key depressed. And all for less than other electronic columns with fewer features.

Even the standard version of this new column has storage for 2,880 readings, an RS-232 communications port, and receptacles for remote T.I.R. reset, gage readings storage and mastering.

Compatible with Older Sheffield Columns
This column works perfectly with existing Sheffield gaging that uses columns whose model numbers begin with L, B or D (most columns back to 1978). The air/electronic version operates with existing Sheffield air and air-to-electronic tooling and most other manufacturer's air gage tooling.

Input Module Versatility
Universal Electronic Models
The amplifier section handles excitation and signal conditioning for up to four LVDT or half-bridge transducers which can be averaged or combined algebraically. It also performs arithmetic summation of analog output signals from two other columns, or splits out channel A and/or B inputs as inputs to other electronic columns. You can change functions and ranges by moving jumpers.

Air-to-Electronic Models The air/electronic module provides an amplifier and converts pneumatic backpressure gaging signals into electronic signals for the LED and digital displays.

LVDT Cartridges
These mechanical size-sensing cartridges are of the linear variable differential transformer type commonly referred to as LVDTs. The internal windings consisting of a primary and differentially wound secondary are calibrated so that as the core moves axially with the linear displacement of the stylus shaft, a voltage signal is created which is amplified by the electronic circuitry. LVDTs are available in a variety of sizes and styles with up to a .400" (10mm) measuring range. Special connectors let most half-bridge and other LVDT transducers work with the universal module.
